Manifesto
This photoblog started when I was going to school at the Art Institute of Portland as part of a class of which the object was to create a personal portfolio site for ourselves. Since then I have moved to Bozeman, Montana and it has become more an applied design/art ethics thesis than a portfolio site.
The photos here are mostly color combinations, compositions, textures or typography that catch my eye.
All the photography on 72ppi.us is licensed Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike unless otherwise indicated (periodically I post something from a commercial or private shoot which is held under exclusive copyright). Please email if you are interested in using any of my photography for commercial purposes or if you would like to exchange links.
Colophon
72ppi is powered by MovableType with a little scripting inspiration from Feed Manager. Structurally XHTML and CSS hold it together, JS and PHP do some grunt work, and moo.fx provides aesthetic assistance. Icons by famfamfam.com and microfromats.org.
Software used in the creation process of the blog includes Adobe Illustrator (sketches and raster graphics), Adobe Photoshop (raster graphics), Panic Coda (XHTML, CSS, Text Updates, Telnet, and FTP to name a few of its purposes), MacRabbit CSSEdit (CSS), TextMate (XHTML, PHP, CGI, JS), Panic Soft Transmit (FTP), IconFactory Xscope (color sampling, screen measurement), iColors (color sampling) and Mozilla Firefox with Firebug, LiveHTTPHeaders, Operator, Tails, and Web Developer.
For the best viewing experience try an Apple computer with a 20-inch or larger display. Although, just about anything else will work as well.
On the photography side I use Adobe Lightroom for sorting, categorizing, and basic editing and Adobe Photoshop for more complex editing.
Camera
- Canon EOS 400d

Lens with a superb zoom range. IS allows for steady hand-held motion capture that still conveys a sense of motion. - Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II
Small, noisy lens with low quality plastic construction, an odd manual focusing mechanism and somewhat erratic auto focusing that provides incredibly narrow depth of field at a very affordable price point.
- Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM
- Canon PowerShot G9
Small digital point and shoot that shoots Raw images, allows manual focusing and exposure control, and has a honking display.
- Canon T90
The last and most electronic manual focus camera that Canon made.- Canon 28mm f2.8
- Canon 50mm f1.8
- Canon 135mm f3.5
- Canon Speedlite 300TL
